Have you been in a situation where you were lost for words while your peers articulate their thoughts very well under pressure? Do you wish to be more eloquent when asked to speak/present?

IEAA Young Professionals co-chairs have organised an engaging and interactive workshop that will equip you with skills and tips on how to "Listen and Speak Under Pressure". Facilitated by Michael Kelly, a proven leader in communication and pitch advisor, you will be given plenty of opportunities to experience and practise proven techniques that enhance communication effectiveness, particularly in high-pressure situations.

Throughout the session, you will delve into various topics essential for mastering effective communication under pressure. From understanding the structure of impactful presentations using the Open-Middle-Close framework to learning techniques such as DBAE (Don’t Be Anywhere Else) and the Engagement Nod, you will gain valuable insights into connecting with your listeners. Moreover, you will explore the "Measuring Cup" speaking technique, along with practical strategies for confidently answering both basic and challenging questions. You will have ample of opportunities to refine your communication skills in a supportive and safe environment.

This is an opportunity not to be missed! Come along and join colleagues from international education community who are new or emerging in this fun and engaging workshop.

Miracle Chen

Team Leader, Student Services and Engagement
UNSW College

Miracle is passionate about offering the best customer service in line with students’ expectations, improving student experience, student community engagement, and building a diverse and inclusive community to support students' wellbeing. Since August 2019, she has worked in the university sector, focusing on student services, engagement and events. Currently, she is the Team Leader, Student Services and Engagement at UNSW Global. In 2022, she was awarded the Superstar of The Year - Cares Award and was nominated for the Vice-Chancellor's Excellence Awards for Professional Staff at Macquarie University. She is eager to connect with professionals in the industry.

Katie Hanna, IEAA-AF

Associate Director - Advocacy and Engagement
Study NSW

Katie Hanna is an Associate Director at Study NSW and an IEAA Associate Fellow. She leads a passionate, diverse and multilingual team responsible for Study NSW’s student engagement, global recruitment and digital marketing activities. She joined Study NSW in 2018 after four years at Griffith University as Student Experience Coordinator. In this role, she coordinated experiential learning and leadership programs for international students. While completing exchange at the University of Bath, Katie experienced the transformational power of international education which sparked an interest to pursue a career in our dynamic industry. Katie is an avid traveller and adventure-enthusiast having twice climbed to Everest Base Camp and volunteered in remote regions of India. In her current role with Study NSW, she combines her love of leadership, education and storytelling to enhance the international student experience.

Michael Kelly

Michael Kelly is a leadership communication trainer and pitch advisor. Michael helps leaders communicate their ideas and vision with confidence, energy and certainty. People who work with Michael deliver influential messages, win more pitches and grow thriving careers. Michael is a leading body language and speech analyst and holds a Master of Science degree in speech pathology. He writes The Winning Voice biweekly blog post.

Vincent Liu

Recruitment Assistant
University of Sydney

Vincent is a dedicated professional currently contributing his expertise to Sydney Future Students International Recruitment at The University of Sydney. Focused on the Greater China region, Vincent spearheads international student recruitment efforts. He recruited international students in ELICOS, vocational education, and higher education in ASX-listed corporations, state governments, and Australian universities in previous roles. Explored and fostered markets in Greater China and other Asian countries. Formulated, implemented, and evaluated strategies and programs for international student recruitment. Engaged with domestic and overseas recruitment partners, ensuring optimal recruitment outcomes. Built and maintained productive relationships with government, industry, and peer organizations. Vincent is deeply passionate about supporting international students throughout their education journey in Australia to become future global young professional.
