Department of Education Updates Predeparture Covid Advice for International Students Departing China, Hong Kong and Macau

Australia’s Department of Education issued new COVID travel advice for international students Departing China, Hong Kong and Macau on Thursday.

From 5 January 2023, the Australian Government requires travellers arriving in Australia from China, including Hong Kong and Macau, to undertake a COVID-19 test within a 48-hour period prior to their scheduled departure and show evidence of a negative test result when travelling to Australia. 

In a statement from the Minister for Health and Aged Care, Hon. Mark Butler MP, “From 12:01am on Thursday 5 January 2023, travellers will be required to undertake a COVID-19 test within the 48 hrs prior to travel and show evidence of a negative test result when travelling to Australia.” 

The Department of Education stated that, “the process has gone smoothly for those arriving on the first flights today from China.”
